NGO International Affairs Committee
Economic and societal changes in Taiwan, democratization in particular, have seen non-governmental organizations (NGOs) come to the fore over the past two decades. Their development has been impressive, and today they form a major channel through which the public can participate in civil society. This is prompting positive change in communities and society as a whole, and NGOs have therefore become an essential part of every aspect of development in Taiwan.
With globalization, Taiwan’s NGOs are also increasingly reaching out to the international community through regional alliances, exchanges and humanitarian work. They are gradually demonstrating their strengths and the important role they can play in the international community. In order to encourage this kind of grassroots diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) established the Non-governmental Organization International Affairs Committee (NGO Affairs Committee) on October 2, 2000, to assist Taiwan’s NGOs with elevating their profile on the international stage.
