Taiwan and Japan Partner for Tourism Exchange

Tokushima City, Japan, Deputy Mayor Matsumoto led a delegation to engage in friendly exchange with Ji-an Township. The township office arranged exchange activities and a township tour for the delegates, who were deeply impressed. According to Deputy Mayor Matsumoto, he would bring this itinerary home and share it with Tokushima citizens to promote tourism and interaction of both places.
After signing a friendly exchange agreement between Ji-an Township Mayor Shu-Chen Yu and Tokushima City Mayor Akiyoshi Endo on January 17, 2019, Ji-an Township Office and Tokushima City Government have since spared no effort to promote the exchange and interaction of both places.
At the first tourism visit in 2020, Ji-an Township Office selected Millennium Hotels and Resorts in Hualien famous for leisure and health promotion as the guest reception and exchange place. It also arranged a tour to local hostels, historical monuments, and Hakka Artist Village to initiate the Ji-an-Tokushima exchange.
In addition, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director of Eastern Taiwan Office, Shinn-Shyh Nien; Ji-an Township Council, Chairperson, Mei-Yun Chiu; Hualien Leisure and Travel Association, Chairperson, Li-Te Hsieh; Hualien Tourism B&B Association, Chairperson, Kun-Chi Lin; Hualien International B&B Association, Chairperson, Ping-Chung Chen; and Chinghsiu Temple, CEO, I-Cheng Chen joined the exchange with Deputy Mayor Matsumoto and the directors of Hualien Hotel Association.
According to Township Mayor Yu, after becoming a friendship city of Tokushima City, the township office co-organized the Taiwan-Japan Student Mental Arithmetic Exchange with the Tokushima government on last August 11 to make the first step of substantial exchange with “education”. This “tourism exploration tour” is an important ceremony integrating the hostel and tourism industries and agriculture. In the exchange, both parties emphasized that they would further exchange in tourism, industry, education, and culture to introduce the township’s beautiful and friendly culture to Tokushima citizens to invite them to visit this classic little town of Ji-an.
After the one-day local tour, Deputy Mayor Matsumoto said that Tokushima and Ji-an are friendship cities, and Ji-an’s agriculture is impressive. From the organic diet to the ancient farming tools at Hakka Artist Village, and the Ji-an’s excellent rice output worth up to NTD$120 million, apart from administration, education, and tourism, he wishes to develop agricultural exchange with Ji-an. In addition, he was deeply influenced by the environment culture, and friendliness of Ji-an and could feel the trace and rich culture of ancestors. He was deeply touched on seeing the history of Tokushima in Taiwan.
