Vice President William Lai Ching-Te visits Tfuya Ancient Trail and Tapang in Alishan for a learning walk on April 24.

In the remarks, Vice President Lai said, “I am so glad to be here at the Tefuya (Tfuya) Ancient Trail. The ‘Walk for the Health of Taiwan’ today is very special with the presence of AIT Director Brent Christensen and his wife, AIT Deputy Director Raymond Greene and his wife, British Representative to Taiwan John Dennis, and Singaporean Representative to Taiwan Yip Wei Kiat. Taiwan has developed great friendships with different countries, so that we can travel everywhere and do anything together.”

Vice President Lai added, “The Tfuya Trail is characterized by a rich forest physiognomy, including rarely seen Taiwan endemic species. If luck is on our side, we can even see the Taiwan salamander (Hynobius formosanus). In addition, this trail represents the cultural heritage and evolution of the Tsou (Cou) people. In the Tapang Community, we can see the family house (emo) of the Tsou people, enjoy the Tsou specialty food, and discover the Tsou culture. This is a fantastic experience for foreign diplomats in Taiwan.”

Under the lead of Elder Gode, chairperson of the Tsou Hunter’s Association of Chiayi County and trail guide Ju-Lin Hsu, the Vice President and the guests began hiking on the Tfuya Trail.
