The Chinese Taipei and Palau Olympic Committees signed a cooperation agreement on May 15. Mr. Frank Kyota, president of the Palau National Olympic Committee, led a delegation to Taiwan to renew the bilateral arrangement on sporting exchanges and continue the long-standing relationship between Taiwan and Palau.
Since 1981, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee has signed sports exchange agreements with 30 countries in all five continents, including 16 in the Americas, 12 in Asia, seven in Europe, one in Africa, and three in Oceania. Taiwan and Palau began their partnership in 2017. Inviting the Palau Olympic Committee to visit Taiwan again this year has special significance.
The scope of the agreement covers exchanges, mutual visits, and joint training programs between the national and youth teams of the two countries; official and staff exchanges; cooperation on coach training; medical science and antidoping initiatives; information sharing; exchanging market information; and collaboration on National Olympic Academies.
Ms. Baklai Temengil, secretary general of the Palau Olympic Committee and also a member of the International Olympic Committee, has long advocated for gender equality, sustainable development, and other issues in international sports. This year, she spoke at the 2023 International Sports Affairs Training Course hosted by the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, sharing her wealth of experience in international sports diplomacy and politics. In the future, the two Olympic Committees will continue to promote mutual exchanges. Working together, the two sides will further deepen and broaden cooperation.
