The World League for Freedom and Democracy (WLFD) held a celebration for 2024 World Freedom Day on January 23. WLFD President Tseng Yung-chuan said the league's mission was to promote the universal values of freedom, democracy, and peace. The theme of the event was “Freedom and Democracy Towards Peace,” reflecting the fact that many countries in today's world are still ravaged by war. Tseng said he believed that conflict could only be resolved through continual communication and negotiation. He called on lovers of freedom and democracy everywhere to do all they could for world peace.

Tseng pointed out that the WLFD has official status as an NGO with the UN.  He said that it was also an international civil society organization in Taiwan working on second track diplomacy with the international community. The WLFD had contributed significantly to advancing diplomatic work and developing liberal democracy, Tseng added.

Tseng explained how Taiwan had become an important symbol for global freedom and democracy. The US Freedom House organization continues to list Taiwan as a free country in its survey of 210 nations. In 2023, Taiwan was placed first in Asia for online freedom and sixth in the world. Tseng said this recognition was the result of collective effort. He concluded that the WLFD would continue to play an active role in the international community to raise awareness about the glorious achievements of Taiwan's freedom and democracy.
