At the close of the 2025 International Council of Nurses Congress in Helsinki, the organizers formally announced that the next ICN Congress in 2027 would be hosted by the Taiwan Nurses Association (TNA). This will be the second time that Taiwan has won the right to hold the conference. Over 5,000 nursing professionals from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in the event. Winning the right to host the congress is an important affirmation for the nursing profession in Taiwan and a key milestone for Taiwan’s engagement in international health affairs and public health development.
Speaking as host of the 2027 congress, TNA President Liao Mei-nan thanked the ICN for its trust and support in granting Taiwan the right to host the event after a gap of 22 years since Taiwan first hosted the congress in its 23rd iteration in 2005. Liao said this fully demonstrated the level of recognition that Taiwan’s nursing profession enjoyed internationally. She added that it highlighted the results of the TNA’s efforts to deepen international exchanges and advance the development of the nursing profession.
After Liao’s remarks, a video promoting the 2027 congress was played at the ceremony. The film spotlighted Taiwan’s multicultural society and high-quality medical care. Representatives from countries around the world responded enthusiastically to the film. Waves of applause and cheering rang around the venue in a vote of confidence for Taiwan’s nursing profession.
