The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Tzu Chi Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding in a ceremony on October 7. The agreement was inked by Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung and Tzu Chi CEO Yen Po-wen. Through the government-NGO partnership, the two sides aim to explore various avenues to engage in charitable and sustainable programs around the world, jointly undertake international charity work, build global partnerships, collectively promote Taiwan's role as a power for good, deepen Taiwan's contributions to the international community, and substantially advance integrated diplomacy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lin said the far-reaching influence of corporations, Taiwanese businesspeople, and nongovernmental organizations was often able to transcend national borders. The minister thanked Tzu Chi for its quick delivery of supplies from Taiwan to assist disaster relief efforts worldwide. He added that Tzu Chi’s rapid deployment of humanitarian aid had not only helped the world see Taiwan but had built international respect for the country.
In his remarks, Yen expressed appreciation to MOFA for facilitating the partnership and creating a platform for the two sides to implement positive initiatives. He also applauded Lin for his long-term participation in Tzu Chi activities and practical support for NGOs.
