On January 22, the Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunities Alliance held its annual general meeting. The event was an opportunity for TEDIBOA to present its achievements over the past year and discuss other industry developments.

TEDIBOA was formed just over 12 months ago. Membership has grown exponentially from 50 to over 260 businesses. TEDIBOA’s main goals this year are to help Taiwanese drone manufacturers obtain US authorization, ensure their products can be exported to the United States, and show the world the niche advantages that Taiwan enjoys in non-red supply chains.

New regulations introduced by the US Federal Communications Commission this year require drones to pass Green/Blue Unmanned Aircraft System vetting. TEDIBOA and the Industrial Technology Research Institute have developed a two-pronged strategy to comply with US restrictions. First, to accelerate compliance with international standards, US authorization procedures will be introduced into Taiwan’s certification process by the end of January. Second, guidance will be given to companies instead of subsidies. The dual approach will help reduce overall costs for enterprises that are applying for US certification and limit sanctions imposed on Taiwan for suspected dumping and unfair competition.

Regarding expansion into the global market, TEDIBOA announced that it had elevated the international profile of Taiwanese products last year and built contacts in other regions. The alliance has established partnerships with 11 drone organizations in seven countries. Its network covers Europe, the Americas, and Asia. TEDIBOA will continue to deepen its connections through upcoming visits to Singapore, the Republic of Korea, and Malaysia to take part in international trade shows and further promote Taiwan’s products and technology.

Speaking at the meeting, TEDIBOA President and Chairman of the Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation Tsao Chin-pin said, “Now is the time for Taiwan’s drones,” adding that, “TEDIBOA will represent the industry, undertake international negotiations, bid for government-to-government orders, and stimulate industrial growth through tangible business opportunities.”
