MOFA attends 2026 Taipei Ultra-Marathon Opening Ceremony

The Taipei Ultra Marathon was held over three days and two nights at the Taipei Expo Park. The flagship 48-hour race took place during low temperatures, driving rain, and strong winds. Despite the harsh conditions, elite runners from around the world delivered first-class performances. Seven competitors met the International Association of Ultrarunners 48-hour international standard, earning the event IAU Gold Label certification for the fourth time and solidifying its status as a premier global ultramarathon.
IAU President Nadeem Khan attended in person as technical delegate. He praised the athletes for their outstanding performances, despite the cold snap, and affirmed that the event was an international benchmark for 48-hour races.

The opening ceremony was graced by officials from the Taipei City Government’s Sports Bureau, the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ NGO International Affairs Council, and members of the diplomatic corps. Their presence underscored the role that sport plays in citizen diplomacy and enhancing Taiwan’s global visibility.
The event further promoted green running. National Tsing Hua University’s Center for Sport Business and Policy set up a stall to advertise the Taiwan Green Running Race Alliance. The booth showed attending athletes from around the world how Taiwan was working on energy conservation, carbon reduction, and sustainability at road race activities.
