On February 27, the Chinese Taipei Alpine Association held a Mountain Rescue Exchange event to improve related skills in Taiwan. The competition brought together 14 elite search and rescue teams from Taiwan as well as the crack Korean Alpine Rescue Association, which has extensive experience in snow operations, and representatives from Japanese rope rescue competition teams Grimp Japan, START JAPAN, and ARA. During the three-day-two-night drill, the teams engaged in intensive skills exchanges and experience sharing.
The event was guided by the principles of realism, exchange, practice, and growth. Activities abandoned traditional competition formats and focused on scenario-based simulations and task-oriented approaches. The contest covered all aspects of mountain search and rescue, including map reading and data analysis on missing persons in complex terrains, advanced rope skills, setting up campsites for long-term stays in the wilderness, and extremely difficult emergency medical treatment in the wild. Notably, the Wulai area was selected as the training site for its mountainous and diverse terrain. The latest international search and rescue technology and tactics were incorporated, allowing competitors to engage in inter-regional and international technical exchanges in realistic rescue situations. The competition demonstrated that Taiwan’s rescue practices are in line with international standards.
